For years, corporations have sponsored high school sports. Their ads are found on the outfield fence at baseball parks or on the walls of the gymnasium, the football stadium, or even the locker room. Corporate logos are even found on players’ uniforms. But some schools have moved beyond corporate sponsorship of sports to allowing “corporate partners” to place their names and ads on all kinds of school facilities —libraries, music rooms, cafeterias. Some schools accept money to require students to watch Channel One, a news program that includes advertising. And schools often negotiate exclusive contracts with soft drink or clothing companies. Some people argue that corporate partnerships are a necessity for cash-strapped schools. Others argue that schools should provide an environment free from ads and corporate influence. Using appropriate evidence, write a short response in which you evaluate the pros and cons of corporate sponsorship for schools, and indicate why you find one position more persuasive than the other.

My opinion for corporations that sponsor sporting events and contribute to college funds is positive and I think should ben exercised regularly. For people who are in NASCAR and have all the labels and sponsorships on their suits they get extra money for advertising the company and they don't have to do anything but wear them. Some people can not afford college and some companies if you sponsor them at your school will give scholarship money to fund those types of people. overall I think that it is a good idea for companies and corporations to sponsor events and games and school activities.
ReplyDeleteI think it is alright for corporate sponsorship to a certain degree. The sponsorships should not be in required areas or things such as the requirement to watch channel 1 in the classroom. If they are required for things every student should have to do, then there should at least be an alternative option. For example, if the school requires you buy their sponsored PE clothes for PE class, then they should allow either the student to bring their own or supply the student with a pair. These sponsorships should never be an intrusion into the life of the student. For instance, a teacher shouldn't have to say a certain slogan when talking about either what instruments they are using or what enabled them to do an activity they are doing. It should never exceed the point to where the advertisement is considered obvious or over-intrusive propaganda. There shouldn't be huge advertisements in the school saying "buy this" or "this brand is the best" as it will most likely take a bigger affect on the student's life.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion I think that sponsorship at school is a positive thing that every school should have. The school can get extra money that can help the students in things that they need like equipment or student events. The sponsoring shouldn't be something that is too overwhelming for the students but something like a sponsored sports drink or minor things are ok and can really benefit the school.
